A little bit of the past
The Village Hall you see today was built in 1984-5 with funds raised by the village through events as well a government grant.
Prior to that, a wooden building was bought and erected in 1951-2. It had previously been the YMCA Hut in St. Georges field, York.
And prior to this... there was the Village Reading Room - now Horseshoe Cottage, and a Church Hall - an old barn located where The Warren now stands behind the vicarage on Church Field Lane. The remains of a very old stone part of this barn can still be seen as part of the boundary wall on Church Field Lane.
Now the Village Hall with its three individual rooms hosts parties, community events, sporting events, meetings, wedding receptions, plays and festivals. It is held in trust by the Parish Council for the benefit of the community and managed by a small committee of volunteers.
